Sindhu Seva Dal to host Cheti Chand Festival in Pune on March 20
Pune, 16th March 2026: The Sindhi community in Pune will celebrate Cheti Chand, marking the Sindhi New Year and the 1076th birth anniversary of Sai Jhulelal, with a cultural gathering organised by Sindhu Seva Dal on Friday, March 20. The event will be held at the air-conditioned banquet hall at Deccan College Ground near Bombay Sappers (BEG) in Yerawada from 7 pm onwards.
The information was shared by Sachin Talreja, president of Sindhu Seva Dal, during a press conference. Former president Suresh Jethwani, Ashok Vaswani, Adv. Haresh Hemrajani, Vijay Daswani, secretary Jay Pinjani, joint secretary Kiran Pherwani, treasurer Rajendra Pherwani, and public relations officer Devendra Chawla were present on the occasion.
Sachin Talreja said, The programme will begin with the traditional pooja and aarti of Sai Jhulelal at 7 pm, followed by a series of social and cultural performances and an entertainment programme. Kishore Ajwani, managing editor with the Network18 Group, will attend the programme as the guest of honour. Nearly 4,000 to 4,500 members of the Sindhi community from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are expected to attend the annual celebration.
This year’s Cheti Chand celebration will focus on women’s empowerment. For the first time, the entire musical production will be performed exclusively by Sindhi women artists. Sixteen performers from different parts of the country will present a cultural show featuring singing, live music, and instrumental performances.
Artists from cities including Jaipur, Bhopal, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Kolkata will participate in the programme. The event will blend modern DJ-based musical arrangements with traditional Sindhi cultural elements to connect younger generations with Sindhi heritage. The cultural evening will be hosted by Sindhi stand-up comedian and storyteller Mohit Shewani, who has been associated with Sindhu Seva Dal’s Cheti Chand celebrations for the past six years.
Organisers said Sindhu Seva Dal has been working for the welfare of the Sindhi community for several decades and is known for organising large-scale Cheti Chand celebrations every year to promote Sindhi culture and traditions. Facilities at the venue will include parking space for over 600 cars, and the event will conclude with preeti bhojan (community dinner) for attendees.
