Wagholi: Traffic Restrictions Announced on Pune-Nagar Road for Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Tournament
Wagholi, 17th March 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police has issued a special notification regarding traffic diversions and restrictions in the Wagholi area to ensure the smooth conduct of the prestigious ‘Maharashtra Kesari’ Wrestling Competition. The orders, aimed at maintaining safety and preventing congestion, will remain in effect for four days.
Restriction Period and Timing
The temporary traffic orders will be operational from March 18, 2026, to March 21, 2026. The restrictions will be enforced daily during peak hours, specifically from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
Affected Routes
The primary restrictions will apply to the Pune-Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) Road, covering the stretch from Lonikand to the Kharadi Bypass. These orders also extend to all internal roads that connect to this main arterial highway.
Ban on Heavy Vehicles and Parking
To facilitate the movement of spectators and regular commuters during the tournament, the following measures have been implemented:
Vehicle Ban: All types of heavy vehicles, including trucks, trailers, dumpers, R.M.C. mixers, bulkers, and heavy machinery (such as JCBs, road rollers, and tractors), are prohibited from plying on the specified routes during the restricted hours.
Parking Prohibited: Carrying out transport operations or parking any heavy vehicles on these roads is strictly banned for the duration of the event.
Essential Services Exempted
The traffic police have clarified that emergency and essential services will remain unaffected. The ban does not apply to:
Fire Brigade vehicles
Police vehicles
Ambulances
PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd) buses
S.T. (State Transport) buses
The notification was issued by Himat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City, exercising powers under the Motor Vehicles Act (Sections 115, 116(1)(A)(B), 116(4), and 117).
Local authorities, including the Wagholi Traffic Division, have been instructed to install necessary signboards to alert commuters. The police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the traffic department to ensure the successful organization of the Maharashtra Kesari event.
