Upgrade of Chinchwad, Miraj & Saswad Road Goods Sheds Completed

Pune, 20th March 2026: Infrastructure modernization projects at the goods sheds in Chinchwad, Miraj, and Saswad Road have reached 100% physical completion as of February 28, 2026. The projects, sanctioned on March 4, 2024, involved a total investment of ₹25.07 crore.

The largest of the three, the Chinchwad goods shed project, was completed at a cost of ₹11.64 crore following the issuance of the Letter of Award on April 7, 2025. The work included renovation of CGS and merchant rooms, construction of a compound wall, and installation of entry and exit gates.

Technical upgrades at Chinchwad comprised shifting of three porta cabins, establishment of FOIS connectivity, and installation of high-mast lighting. Civil works included removal of middle fencing, concreting of the circulating area, and development of an automobile loading pathway using paver blocks.

At Miraj, the goods shed modernization was completed at a cost of ₹10.21 crore. The project, awarded on June 18, 2024, involved extending the platform length by 150 metres and dismantling the existing TP2 platform.

Additional works at Miraj included construction of a new approach road, merchant room, covered shed, and renovation of the labour rest room. Electrical infrastructure was completed with the commissioning of four high-mast lights. The circulating area at TP2 and a dedicated drinking water facility were also developed.

The Saswad Road goods shed project, sanctioned at ₹3.22 crore, was completed following the Letter of Award issued on July 4, 2024. The project included construction of a 190-metre approach road and a boundary wall.

Site-level improvements at Saswad Road included installation and commissioning of three high-mast lights, concreting of the circulating area, and construction of a security gate at the FSG end. Underground and overhead water tanks were also developed as part of the project.

Divisional Commercial Manager and Public Relations Officer Hemant Kumar Behera said the modernisation is aimed at strengthening freight infrastructure across the division. “The development of modern goods facilities at these locations will significantly enhance handling capacity and improve the overall movement of freight. With upgraded infrastructure, better connectivity, and streamlined operations, the projects are expected to ensure faster turnaround, improved efficiency, and safer handling of goods across the Pune Division,” he said.
