Pune, 26th March 2026: The agriculture college administration has ordered a fire safety and structural audit of its campus and set up an inquiry committee to probe the recent incident in which a student died after suffering an electric shock.

The move comes after students staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday, alleging lapses in safety measures on the campus. The administration has also directed similar audits across all agriculture colleges affiliated with Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth to ensure student safety.

According to officials, Chaitanya Chavan, a student of the Agricultural Business Management course at the Shivajinagar-based agriculture college, suffered an electric shock near a drinking water filter in the college canteen on March 14. He was admitted to a hospital but later died during treatment.

Following the incident, students expressed anger over alleged negligence and demanded accountability from the authorities. Vice-chancellor Dr Vilas Kharche visited the college, held a meeting with officials and interacted with students to address their concerns.
