Pune, 26th March 2026: The state government has sent 15 senior officials from the revenue department on compulsory leave for their alleged role in the scam after major land records irregularity surfaced in Pune district.

The matter pertains to the alleged misuse of Section 155 of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, which came to light recently following a committee that was formed by the revenue minister. Among those facing action include several officers who earlier served as tehsildar in the district and were later transferred out of Pune. The move has caused a stir in the revenue department.

Section 155 empowers revenue officials to carry out minor corrections such as spelling errors or technical discrepancies in land records. However, officials found that in several talukas of Pune district, including Khed, Junnar, Maval, Indapur and Shirur, the provision was allegedly misused to make major changes.

These include altering ownership details, changing land area records, and illegally converting ‘Occupant Class-II’ land into ‘Class-I’, which has significant legal and financial implications.

Officials said the government has taken serious note of the irregularities and further action will be based on the outcome of the ongoing probe.
