Pune: Answer Sheets Damaged in the Rain? SPPU Says they were meant to be Discarded
Pune, 30th March 2026: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Monday clarified that the answer sheets found lying exposed and damaged due to rain at an examination centre warehouse had already been evaluated and were kept only for procedural disposal.
The clarification came after students raised concerns over a large number of answer sheets reportedly lying in the open and getting soaked in rain. Students alleged negligence on part of the administration, saying the lack of proper protection had led to damage and raised concerns about their academic future. They also demanded strict action against officials responsible.
In a statement, Prof Dr Prabhakar Desai, in-charge director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, said that as per university rules, answer sheets are disposed of after the declaration of results and completion of evaluation and re-evaluation processes.
“Accordingly, the disposal process is currently underway and the contractor has been instructed to complete the formalities. During the collection of these answer sheets for disposal, some got wet due to unseasonal rain,” he said.
The university officials said that all required procedures had already been completed for the affected answer sheets and they were no longer part of the active evaluation process.
