Pune, 6th April 2026: The State Transport (ST) department has launched the Rajmata Jijau shuttle bus service on the Pune–Baramati route to improve connectivity and provide safer travel options for passengers, especially women.

Encouraged by the positive response from commuters, the Pune ST division has requested 250 additional buses from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to expand the shuttle service to other routes in the region.

The Rajmata Jijau bus service, recently inaugurated at the state level, features modern amenities with a focus on passenger safety. Over the next few months, around 3,000 such buses are expected to be introduced across the state in phases, with the Pune division set to receive a share of the fleet.

The newly introduced buses have a seating capacity of 56 passengers and are equipped with five CCTV cameras, a GPS tracking system, a panic button facility, a public announcement system, and electronic destination display boards. The service is designed to prioritise the safety and convenience of women commuters, students, and daily passengers.

Officials said the shuttle service has already received a good response since its launch last week. It is expected to ease travel during peak hours, particularly for those commuting to and from the city for work and education.

According to Kamlesh Dhanarale, Divisional Transport Officer of ST, around 100 buses are likely to be added to the Pune division within the next month. Plans are also underway to identify and finalise additional routes for operating the shuttle service, which will benefit passengers in both urban and rural areas.
