Hinjawadi, 6th April 2026: Severe waterlogging at Hinjawadi IT Park has triggered strong criticism from IT employees, who say the area is turning into a “water park” even before the monsoon. Unseasonal rains in Pune have already exposed major infrastructure shortcomings in the region.

Sarcastically describing the situation as “floating two-wheelers, swimming pedestrians, and submarine cars,” the Forum for IT Employees shared a video on social media highlighting the poor condition of roads and drainage in the area. The group also tagged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Industries Minister Uday Samant, demanding urgent intervention.

Waterlogged roads, traffic congestion, vehicle breakdowns and difficulties for pedestrians have disrupted daily life for lakhs of employees commuting to the IT hub. Despite repeated complaints, authorities such as the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) have allegedly failed to take effective action.

Employees say the problem recurs every year, raising concerns about infrastructure planning in the rapidly developing IT corridor. Hinjawadi, one of Maharashtra’s largest IT hubs, witnesses heavy daily traffic, but inadequate infrastructure makes commuting particularly difficult during rains. Key issues include insufficient drainage systems, poorly planned road construction, pothole-ridden and waterlogged roads, rising traffic congestion and weak civic infrastructure.

Experts and employees have suggested several measures to address the issue, including the construction of modern high-capacity drainage systems, redesigning roads with proper slopes for water flow, and strengthening infrastructure in fast-growing areas. They have also recommended better coordination with IT companies to allow flexible working hours during such disruptions.
