Pune: PMC Demolishes 7 RMC Plants in Lohegaon in 2 AM Action, Association Calls Strike to Protest against Drive
Pune, 15th April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) intensified its crackdown on illegal Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants and demolished seven units in the Khandve Nagar, Lohegaon area in the early hours of Wednesday.
The action, carried out around 2 am near the Mahalakshmi Lawns vicinity, was conducted under the directions of the municipal commissioner and supervised by additional municipal commissioner Pavneet Kaur and deputy commissioner (encroachment and unauthorised constructions) Somnath Bankar.
Civic officials said a total of 52,250 sq ft of unauthorised temporary and permanent structures, including sheds and related constructions, were cleared during the drive.
The demolition was carried out with a large deployment, including 75 personnel from the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), 16 JCB machines, five gas cutters, two breakers, along with 30 assistant encroachment inspectors and 85 labourers.
The latest drive is part of a broader crackdown launched by the PMC against unauthorised RMC plants operating in different parts of the city. A similar demolition action was carried out earlier in the Undri–Handewadi belt, where an RMC unit spread on around 27,000 square meters was demolished.
Meanwhile, opposing the civic action, the RMC association has announced a strike from Wednesday across the district, protesting against the demolitions and alleging that the crackdown is affecting their operations. The strike is expected to impact construction activities across parts of the city and rural areas.
