SSB Head Constable 2026: Application Deadline Extended, Check Vacancies and Salary
New Delhi, 21st April 2026: The application window for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Head Constable Recruitment 2026 has been extended, giving candidates more time to apply for one of the 233 vacancies notified earlier this year.
The recruitment drive, which opened on 21 March, was originally scheduled to close in April. It has now been extended to 4 May, according to multiple reports, allowing applicants who missed the earlier deadline another chance to complete their forms.
This extension comes as part of the ongoing SSB recruitment cycle for non-GD head constable posts, including roles such as communication, electrician, veterinary and steward.
The vacancies are limited, 233 in total, with the majority under the communication category. The recruitment is being conducted by the SSB, a central armed police force under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In terms of eligibility, candidates are required to have passed Class 10 or 12, depending on the post, along with relevant diplomas or ITI certifications for technical roles. The age limit broadly falls between 18 and 27 years, with some variation for specific posts.
The salary structure is one of the key draws. Selected candidates will be placed under Pay Level-4, with a pay scale ranging from Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 per month, along with standard allowances. This pushes the overall monthly payout significantly higher, depending on postings and benefits, which is where the “over Rs 80,000” figure comes from at the upper end of the scale.
The selection process is multi-stage and includes a physical efficiency test (PET), Physical Standard Test (PST), written examination, skill test (where applicable), and a medical examination.
While the extension offers breathing room, the window is still tight. Candidates are advised to complete applications well before the new deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues, especially given the fully online process.
