From May 25, All Pune Hoardings Must Display QR Codes, Says PMC
Pune, 25th April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation has made it mandatory for all authorised advertising hoardings within its jurisdiction to display QR codes, as part of a move aimed at improving transparency and ensuring easy public access to licensing details.
The directive has been issued by the civic body’s Sky Signs Department in line with the Maharashtra government’s Advertisement Regulation Rules dated May 9, 2022.
Under the new system, every authorised hoarding must carry a QR code that can be scanned using a mobile phone to view complete details such as permission status, renewal records, ownership information and validity of the licence. Officials said this will allow citizens to verify whether an advertisement structure is legally permitted.
The Information and Technology Department will generate and provide the QR codes, which must be clearly affixed to the lower right corner of each hoarding structure. Civic authorities have warned that hoardings without QR codes, or those that fail to display valid information upon scanning, will be treated as unauthorised and removed accordingly.
The rule will come into effect from May 27, 2026.
Officials further stated that any changes to the information linked to the QR code will require prior approval and will remain under the supervision of the IT department. Strict enforcement will follow after the deadline, and assistant commissioners at the ward level have been empowered to take action against violations.
