Maharashtra Starts Digital Census 2027: Here’s How You Can Self-Enumerate
Mumbai, 30th April 2026: Maharashtra has begun the self-enumeration process for Census 2027, allowing residents to fill in their household details online for the first time.
The self-enumeration window in the state will remain open from May 1 to May 15, 2026, ahead of the house-listing phase. The facility is available on the official portal — https://se.census.gov.in — where any one member of a household can complete the process in about 15–20 minutes.
Officials said the online process is optional and no documents are required. Once completed, a Self-Enumeration (SE) ID will be generated and shared with the user on the registered mobile number and e-mail.
The Chief Principal Census Officer, Maharashtra, Dr Nirupama Dange said “Self-enumeration is optional, not mandatory. If someone has not self-enumerated, there is no need to worry; enumerators will visit every home between May 16th and June 14th, 2026, to collect or record the information”.
Authorities clarified that those who do not opt for self-enumeration need not worry, as enumerators will visit households between May 16 and June 14 to collect the data. The SE ID, if generated, must be shared with the enumerator for verification. During the visit of the Enumerator to the household in the first phase called ‘Houselisting and Housing Census’, the SE ID will need to be shared for validation, confirmation, and final submission of the Self-Enumeration data.
