Pimpri Chinchwad, 25th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has imposed a series of restrictions aimed at conserving energy, reducing fuel consumption and cutting expenditure in view of the state government’s directives issued amid rising tensions in West Asia.

The civic body’s general administration department has issued a circular on Monday introducing measures that place curbs on official tours, vehicle usage, electricity consumption and fresh consultant appointments.

According to the circular, all approved foreign tours related to official work have been suspended until further orders. Civic officials have also been directed not to plan any new foreign visits.

The administration has instructed officers and employees to minimise the use of vehicles for official work and promote carpooling during joint visits. Officials have also been asked to increase the use of public transport systems such as Metro, railways and PMPML buses.

The circular further states that meetings, training programmes and seminars should be conducted online as far as possible to reduce travel and operational costs.

To save electricity, offices have been directed to maximise the use of natural lighting and maintain air-conditioner temperatures between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. The civic body has also stressed increasing the use of solar energy in women’s hostels, hospitals and schools.

The administration has additionally encouraged the use of PNG gas for cooking purposes as part of energy-saving measures.

In another cost-cutting step, the civic body has directed departments to avoid appointing new consultants over the next six months for any projects.

Officials said the measures were part of broader efforts to control expenditure and manage increasing financial pressure on the civic administration.
