Pune, 25th May 2026: Political activity surrounding the upcoming Legislative Council elections has intensified, with a strong tussle underway within the ruling Mahayuti alliance over seat-sharing. Several aspirants are being discussed for candidature. Amid this, speculation was rife that Jay Pawar, son of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, would contest the Legislative Council polls on a ticket from the NCP.

However, Jay Pawar has now put an end to the speculation by denying the reports himself.

Amid ongoing discussions over seat allocation within the Mahayuti alliance, several media reports had claimed that NCP was likely to field Jay Pawar as a candidate for the Legislative Council elections from Pune. Responding to the reports, Jay Pawar issued a clarification through an Instagram post.

“In the last two days, several media organisations have reported that Jay Ajit Pawar will contest the Legislative Council elections as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party. I would like to clarify that I will not be contesting the local self-government body elections,” he stated.

Expressing confidence in the party leadership, Jay Pawar said the party would choose a committed and capable candidate with leadership qualities and a long-term vision for public welfare.

He further said that the party would field a face who would carry forward the development-oriented vision and public welfare work associated with Ajit Pawar, while effectively resolving pending issues and working sincerely for the common people.

With this statement, Jay Pawar has ruled out the possibility of contesting the upcoming Legislative Council elections.
