Congress to Organise ‘Pune Traffic Conference’ on June 6 to Discuss Solutions to Growing Congestion
Pune, 3rd June 2026: Amid mounting concerns over worsening traffic congestion in the city, the Pune City District Congress Committee will organise a “Pune Traffic Conference” on June 6 to discuss the issue and explore possible solutions.
The conference will be held at Patrakar Bhavan in Navi Peth from 10 am to 1 pm and will bring together senior government officials, transport experts, journalists and citizens.
Announcing the event, Deepti Choudhary, president of the Congress party’s west Pune unit, said the objective was to create a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the city’s traffic challenges and recommend practical measures.
She said a consolidated report containing the recommendations and conclusions emerging from the conference would be submitted to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Pune Municipal Commissioner. The Congress party would also follow up on the implementation of the recommendations.
According to Choudhary, a publication documenting the discussions, expert opinions and recommendations presented at the conference will also be released.
Officials invited to participate include Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakare, Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad, PMC Road Department head Rohitdas Gavhane, PMC Chief Engineer (Projects) Dinkar Gojare, PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan, PMPML Joint Managing Director, Pune Metro Project Director Atul Gadgil and CIRT Technical Department head S N Dhole.
Citizen activist Vivek Velankar and journalist Mangesh Kolapkar, who have extensively studied Pune’s traffic issues, are also expected to participate.
Choudhary said the Congress had undertaken several infrastructure projects during its tenure in the Pune Municipal Corporation, including road widening, cement concrete roads, footpaths, multi-level parking facilities, flyovers and underpasses. She added that the party had consistently pursued the Pune Metro project, which received approval from the Centre in 2013. She appealed to citizens to participate in the conference and contribute suggestions for addressing Pune’s growing traffic problems.
