Ahead of Pune Grand Tour 2027, PMRDA Allocates Rs 262 Crore for 18 Road Projects Covering 151 km
Pune, 8th June 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has earmarked Rs 262.45 crore for the development of 151.5 km of roads across its jurisdiction in preparation for the Pune Grand Tour 2027, an international cycling event scheduled to be held from January 26 to 31 next year.
The competition, being organised in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), will pass through several areas under PMRDA limits, prompting the authority to undertake extensive road improvement works. PMRDA officials said the project is aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of the event while also strengthening regional infrastructure.
According to PMRDA superintendent engineer Prashant Patil, international sporting events should serve as catalysts for regional development. The authority has focused on improving connectivity between rural roads and major district routes, facilitating agricultural transportation, promoting tourism, and encouraging a culture of health and fitness among citizens.
A broader development blueprint prepared for the cycling event proposes road works covering 412.4 km, of which PMRDA will undertake 151.5 km. The authority has identified 18 key road projects for which Rs 262.45 crore has been allocated. Officials said dedicated funding has also been provided for strategically important road stretches to improve traffic management and support economic growth in the region.
