Retired Army Officers Lead Protest Over Lack of Water Supply in Pune’s Pisoli
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Pisoli, 15th June 2026: Residents of Sai Shraddha Bungalow Society in Pisoli have raised serious concerns over the continued absence of municipal water supply, alleging that despite the area being incorporated into the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) nearly five years ago, no concrete plan for water infrastructure has been implemented.
The residents, including several retired defence personnel who have served the nation with distinction, have submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner, seeking immediate intervention. According to the memorandum, the society has been forced to rely entirely on expensive private water tankers due to the complete absence of PMC water pipelines and a regular municipal water supply.
The issue has become a significant financial and emotional burden, particularly for senior citizens, retired servicemen, and their families, who continue to pay taxes while being deprived of basic civic amenities.
Tehseen Teerandaz, chairman of Sai Shraddha Dekhbhal Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit, said residents had hoped the merger with PMC would bring long-awaited infrastructure development.
“It has been nearly five years since Pisoli came under PMC jurisdiction, yet residents are still waiting for a clear roadmap and implementation of the municipal water supply project. We have repeatedly approached the authorities, but there has been no visible progress. Water is a basic necessity, not a privilege. Citizens who regularly pay taxes deserve access to an assured supply of drinking water,” Teerandaz said.
Retired defence officers residing in the society also expressed disappointment over the prolonged delay.
Colonel Dr. Vinaylal Saxena (Retd.) said, “Many of us have dedicated our lives to serving the nation. It is unfortunate that after retirement, we are compelled to struggle for something as fundamental as drinking water. We expect the civic administration to address this issue with urgency and dignity.”
Colonel Navin Bendre (Retd.) said, “The absence of PMC water infrastructure despite years of assurances reflects a serious gap between planning and execution. Residents have shown patience, but there must now be accountability and a definite timeline for implementation.”
Colonel Simon (Retd.) added, “Senior citizens and defence veterans should not have to rely on costly private tankers for survival. Access to basic civic services is a right of every taxpayer. We urge PMC to act immediately and provide permanent relief to residents.”
In their memorandum, residents have demanded an immediate inspection of the society, sanctioning and execution of PMC water pipeline infrastructure, commencement of regular municipal water supply, and relief from dependence on private tankers.
The representation further highlights that several decorated retired Armed Forces officers reside in the society and have been enduring these hardships despite their years of national service.
Residents now hope that PMC will move beyond assurances and announce a concrete plan and timeline to resolve the long-pending water crisis affecting Pisoli and surrounding areas.
