Pune, 16th June 2026: In a bid to ease congestion and improve traffic flow at Pune Airport, the airport administration is planning to impose a ₹500 penalty on vehicles that remain in the drop-off zone for more than 15 minutes.

Thousands of passengers use Pune Airport every day, while a large number of private vehicles arrive to drop off and pick up travellers. Airport officials have observed that vehicles often linger near the terminal entrance for extended periods, leading to long queues and traffic bottlenecks. As a result, passengers frequently face delays in reaching the terminal on time.

To address the issue, the airport administration has proposed a new traffic management system aimed at ensuring smoother and more disciplined vehicle movement within the airport premises. Under the proposed rules, vehicles entering the drop-off area will be allowed a maximum stay of 15 minutes. Any vehicle exceeding the prescribed time limit will be liable to pay a penalty of ₹500.

The move is expected to be particularly beneficial during peak travel hours, when heavy traffic at the entrance and drop-off zones causes significant congestion. Officials said vehicle movements in these areas will be closely monitored, and penalties will be imposed based on vehicle registration numbers.

Airport authorities have submitted a proposal to introduce a 15-minute dual-time system at the airport entrance. The measure will be implemented after receiving the necessary approvals.

According to officials, the initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve passenger convenience and enhance the overall efficiency of airport operations.
