Mohammadwadi, 19th June 2026: Residents of Archana Kohinoor Glory Society and neighbouring residential complexes in NIBM Annexe, Mohammadwadi, have raised serious concerns over alleged late-night nuisance, illegal racing, suspected drug use and deteriorating law-and-order conditions on the main road outside their societies, claiming the situation has become unbearable for families.
According to residents, several hotels, eateries and food trucks in the area allegedly continue operating until 4 am and 5 am, attracting large crowds and generating noise throughout the night. Locals said the stretch has become a hotspot for speeding motorcycles, luxury cars, reckless driving and other anti-social activities, severely disturbing residents’ sleep.
They alleged that groups of youngsters frequently use the wide road outside the society for motorcycle and car racing after midnight. Constant noise from modified exhausts, revving engines and speeding vehicles has reportedly become a regular occurrence.
Residents also pointed to malfunctioning streetlights along parts of the road, claiming that poorly lit stretches have become gathering points for suspicious activity. They further expressed concerns over alleged narcotics consumption, late-night gatherings inside parked vehicles and the increasing presence of individuals they described as “suspicious” in the locality during night hours.
Some residents also alleged that personnel from Kalepadal Police Station were accepting “hafta” from establishments operating beyond permissible hours. However, the allegation could not be independently verified, and no official evidence has been provided to substantiate the claim.
Residents said they have repeatedly raised complaints with authorities but have seen little improvement on the ground. They are now demanding immediate intervention from senior officials.
Residents Speak
Avinash Singh said, “The road has effectively become a racing track after midnight. Families are unable to sleep due to the constant noise from speeding vehicles.”
Manju Joshi said, “Food trucks and crowds continue operating till early morning. Residents are suffering, and there appears to be little enforcement on the ground.”
Srikant Kulkarni said, “Non-functional streetlights have created dark stretches that make residents feel unsafe.”
Sanjeev Mehta said, “The situation has steadily worsened. There needs to be a sustained crackdown and visible police presence.”
Saurabh Gupta alleged, “There are concerns regarding narcotics use and suspicious activities taking place during late-night hours. Authorities should conduct regular checks.”
Suhasini Kelkar said, “Women, senior citizens and children are the most affected. Rules regarding operating hours and public order must be strictly enforced.”
Police Response
When contacted regarding the allegations, senior police officials said they would examine the complaints raised by residents.
A senior police officer said, “We will look into the allegations and take appropriate action wherever violations are found.”
Residents have demanded a joint enforcement drive involving police, civic authorities and other departments to verify operating permissions of establishments, curb illegal racing, investigate allegations of drug use, repair streetlights and restore peace in the residential locality.
