Pune, 30th June 2026: Shivajinagar, Pune’s official weather observatory, recorded just 64 mm of rainfall in June 2026, making it the Third driest June since 2016. The latest rainfall figures indicate a subdued start to the monsoon season, with this year’s June rainfall falling well short of levels recorded in most recent years.

Among the years from 2016 onwards, only 2022 (35 mm), 2016 (59 mm) and 2023 (83.9 mm) recorded lower June rainfall than 2026 (64 mm). The data places this year among the driest Junes witnessed by the Shivajinagar observatory over the past decade.

In contrast, several recent years saw significantly higher June rainfall. Shivajinagar received 252 mm in 2024, the highest during the period, while rainfall exceeded 200 mm in 2017 (207.8 mm), 2020 (207.7 mm) and 2025 (207.7 mm). Other years also recorded substantially better rainfall, including 2019 (197.9 mm), 2021 (152.5 mm) and 2018 (148 mm).

June 2026 Becomes Fifth Driest June for India Since 1901-
India recorded one of its driest June months in more than a century, with nationwide rainfall measuring 99.5 mm, making June 2026 the fifth driest June since 1901, according IMD.

The IMD’s long-term rainfall analysis for the period 1901–2026 shows that June 2026 received significantly lower rainfall than the climatological normal (1971–2020 average). The data highlights a substantial rainfall deficit during what is typically the opening month of the southwest monsoon season.

According to the IMD data, only four years have recorded lower all-India June rainfall than 2026:

2009: 87.6 mm
1905: 91.9 mm
2014: 92.8 mm
1926: 96.7 mm
2026: 99.5 mm
