Pisoli, 1st July 2026: In a heartening community initiative to promote environmental conservation, grassroots environmental organisation Nirmal Prakriti organised a Tree Adoption Drive on Tuesday evening along Veer Savarkar Marg in Pisoli, with children taking centre stage. Held as a follow-up to World Environment Day, the initiative encouraged young participants to become custodians of nature by adopting and caring for trees.
The event, which began at 6 p.m., brought together residents ranging in age from five to ninety years. The highlight of the programme was the enthusiastic participation of children, who led a community clean-up drive before formally adopting two-year-old Ayurvedic trees. They also took a pledge to protect their adopted trees and help keep their surroundings clean and green.
As part of the initiative, volunteers and residents cleaned the stretch of Veer Savarkar Marg, applied protective mulch around trees where required, and received practical guidance on tree care, water conservation, and the maintenance of urban greenery. Organisers said the drive aimed to instil environmental responsibility among children while encouraging greater community participation in sustainable practices.
“I am happy to adopt a tree because it is now my responsibility to take care of it. I will water it regularly and make sure it grows into a big, healthy tree,” said one of the young participants.
Another child said, “Cleaning our surroundings and planting trees was fun. I want everyone to protect nature because trees give us clean air, shade, and a better future.”
Organisers said the concept of tree adoption extends beyond planting saplings and focuses on ensuring their survival through regular care and maintenance. By involving children directly, the initiative aims to nurture lifelong environmental awareness and inspire future generations to become responsible stewards of nature.
Nirmal Prakriti is a community-driven environmental organisation that promotes sustainable living through initiatives such as rainwater conservation, plastic collection and responsible disposal, community clean-up drives, plantation and conservation of Ayurvedic and native tree species, biodiversity conservation, promotion of human-animal coexistence, and environmental awareness programmes in schools, colleges, corporate organisations, and government departments.
The organisation believes that meaningful environmental change begins with individual responsibility and collective community action, encouraging citizens of all ages to play an active role in protecting and preserving the natural environment.
