Pune, 1st July 2026: The Maharashtra State Cooperative Housing Federation has urged the state government to address seven long-pending issues affecting cooperative housing societies and apartment associations across Maharashtra. The federation has submitted a memorandum to Pravin Darekar, Chairman of the Maharashtra Housing Cluster Redevelopment and Self-Redevelopment Authority, seeking his intervention to expedite action on the proposals.

Among its key demands, the federation has requested the allotment of dedicated office space for the Maharashtra State Cooperative Housing Federation and the Pune District Federation in the new building of Sahakar Sankul at Shivajinagar. It has also sought an early decision on the pending proposal to grant federal status to the Maharashtra State Federation as well as the district federations of Pune, Thane, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The federation has called for the deemed conveyance process to be made fully online through a single-window system to ensure greater transparency, efficiency, and faster disposal of applications.

It has also demanded effective implementation of the state’s 2019 self-redevelopment policy for cooperative housing societies and apartment complexes. The federation urged the government to implement the recommendations made by the Pravin Darekar Committee on self-redevelopment without further delay.

Another major demand relates to amendments to the Maharashtra Apartment Ownership Act. The federation has requested the government to accept the recommendations of the committee headed by Cooperation Commissioner Deepak Tawre and introduce the necessary legal amendments.

The memorandum also seeks a permanent waiver of stamp duty for the conversion of apartment associations into cooperative housing societies through appropriate legal provisions and the issuance of a government resolution.

According to the federation, Maharashtra has nearly 1.26 lakh cooperative housing societies and around 2 lakh apartment complexes. It said the proposed reforms would benefit millions of residents and members associated with these housing bodies across the state.

Federation President Suhas Patwardhan expressed hope that the state government would take a positive and timely decision on the demands, stating that they are directly linked to the interests and welfare of lakhs of cooperative housing society members across Maharashtra.
