Pune Weather Today: Chinchwad Records 36.5 mm Rain; Shivajinagar, Pashan See Steady Downpour; Orange Warning for Ghat Areas
Pune, 3rd July 2026: Active monsoon conditions have returned to Pune and its neighbouring regions with full force, bringing substantial rainfall across the district over the last 24 hours.
According to the latest district-wide observations recorded by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 03:00 UTC (8:30 AM IST) on Friday, July 3, 2026, the town of Bhor recorded the highest rainfall in the district, receiving a heavy downpour of 74.0 mm.
In response to the intensifying monsoon system, the weather office has issued an orange alert warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several areas, with extremely heavy downpours predicted in the isolated Ghat regions over the next three days.
Heavy and Moderate Showers Spread Across Pune District
Rainfall distribution across the Pune district has been widespread, with the hilly western terrains and northern blocks experiencing the heaviest spells. Following Bhor’s peak of 74.0 mm, Chinchwad recorded a strong spell of 36.5 mm, closely followed by Malin at 33.0 mm.
Moderate showers were observed across Pune’s urban suburbs and surrounding rural areas. Lohgaon registered 29.4 mm, while Pashan recorded 26.1 mm. Nimgiri saw 26.0 mm, followed by Shivajinagar at 25.3 mm, Dapodi at 25.0 mm, and the National Defence Academy (NDA) at 20.5 mm. Other areas that experienced moderate precipitation include Dudulgaon with 14.0 mm, Rajgurunagar with 13.0 mm, and Ballalwadi with 11.5 mm.
In contrast, the eastern plains and southern parts of the district received relatively light rain. Talegaon recorded 7.5 mm, Narayangaon saw 7.0 mm, and both Haveli and Shirur registered 5.5 mm. Lighter showers were recorded in Daund at 3.0 mm, Baramati at 1.0 mm, Koregaon Park at 1.0 mm, and Lavale at 0.5 mm. The Magarpatta station, while operational under the network, did not have any recorded rainfall data in the morning bulletin.
High Humidity and Cool Temperatures Across Urban Pune
The heavy precipitation has led to highly saturated atmospheric conditions across Pune’s urban sectors. Morning relative humidity reached a full saturation level of 100% at Pashan, Lohegaon, and Chinchwad. Humidity remained exceptionally high elsewhere, with NDA recording 99%, Lavale at 98%, Shivajinagar at 95%, and Koregaon Park at 94%.
These damp conditions kept morning temperatures remarkably cool. The dry bulb temperatures recorded at 8:30 AM hovered in the comfortable low-to-mid 20s. Shivajinagar registered a dry bulb temperature of 23.6°C (with a minimum of 22.5°C), while Chinchwad was at 23.5°C (minimum of 22.7°C). Lohegaon recorded 23.3°C (minimum of 22.2°C), Pashan was at 23.2°C (minimum of 21.4°C), and NDA saw 22.8°C (minimum of 22.3°C).
Lavale remained the coolest urban pocket with a dry bulb temperature of 21.0°C and a minimum of 20.2°C. Meanwhile, Koregaon Park was slightly warmer, recording a dry bulb temperature of 24.5°C and a minimum temperature of 23.9°C. Yesterday, on July 2, 2026, the realized maximum temperatures across the plains peaked at a mild 27.2°C in Pune city, Pashan, and Koregaon Park, while Lavale recorded a cooler maximum of 22.9°C.
IMD 7-Day Outlook: Peak Intensity Expected Over the Weekend
The IMD’s local forecast indicates that Pune and its neighbourhood will continue to see intense weather. From Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, the sky will remain generally cloudy. While the urban plains of Pune are very likely to experience light to moderate rain, the weather department has issued a severe advisory for the surrounding hills, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, alongside extremely heavy downpours at isolated places in the Ghat areas.
Maximum temperatures during this weekend spell are expected to stay between 24°C and 28°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 19°C and 23°C.
On Monday, July 6, the monsoon activity will stay strong with generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rain. Hilly regions will remain on alert as heavy to very heavy rainfall is still likely in isolated areas of the Ghats.
A slight reduction in rainfall intensity is expected toward the middle of next week. On Tuesday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 8, the weather office forecasts generally cloudy skies with a continuation of light to moderate rain across the district, representing a gradual transition to steady, standard monsoon showers.
Public Advisory and Safety Guidelines
Given the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall in the hilly Ghat terrains surrounding Pune (including Lonavala, Khandala, Bhor, and Tamhini Ghat), local authorities have issued a public warning. Travelers are strongly urged to avoid non-essential commutes through ghat roads over the weekend due to the increased risks of landslides, rockfalls, and heavily reduced visibility. Furthermore, tourists have been strictly advised to stay away from waterbodies, waterfalls, and swelling streams.
Commuters within Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits should prepare for localized waterlogging and slow-moving traffic during peak hours, particularly in Chinchwad, Pashan, and Shivajinagar where rain continues to fall steadily.
