Pune Skaters Win 9 Medals for India at International Inline Speed Skating Championship in Maldives
Pune, 4th July 2026: Young inline speed skaters from Pimple Saudagar brought laurels to India by winning nine medals at the International Inline Speed Skating Championship held in the Maldives from June 18 to 20.
The championship was organised by the Maldives Roller Skating Association, which is recognised by World Skate Asia and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Eight skaters from Maharashtra, Goa, and Assam were selected to represent India at the international event.
The Pune contingent delivered an exceptional performance, securing a total of nine medals, including six gold, two silver, and one bronze.
Sharvil Thatte, competing in the boys’ 9–11 years category, emerged as one of India’s top performers. He won three gold medals in the 500m Pro Inline Speed Road, 5 km Marathon, and 500m Pro Inline Speed Track events. He also claimed a silver medal in the 400m Pro Inline Speed Track event.
In the girls’ 11–13 years category, Aditi Ghongade won two gold medals in the 500m Pro Inline Speed Road and 10 km Marathon events, along with a silver medal in the 500m Pro Inline Speed Track event.
Sukhada Shete, competing in the girls’ 13–15 years category, added to India’s medal tally by winning a gold medal in the Time Trial Pro Inline Speed Track event and a bronze medal in the 500m Pro Inline Speed Track event.
The athletes’ success has been attributed to their dedication, rigorous training, and disciplined preparation. The team was coached by Head Coach Rahul Bilgi, whose technical guidance played a key role in the skaters’ performances. Team Managers Samruddhi Shete and Sanket Thatte also contributed significantly by coordinating the team and providing continuous support throughout the championship.
The young skaters’ impressive performance has brought pride to Pimple Saudagar, Pune, and Maharashtra, while highlighting India’s growing presence in international inline speed skating. Their achievements have been widely appreciated by the sporting community and are expected to inspire more young athletes to pursue the sport.
