Mohammadwadi, 6th July 2026: A dangerous horizontal road cut outside Shalimar Hotel, near Ganga Kingston in NIBM Annexe, Mohammadwadi, has become a major safety hazard during the monsoon, with residents alleging that several two-wheeler riders have slipped and fallen due to incomplete road restoration following water pipeline work. The rain-filled trench has also caused traffic congestion, prompting urgent appeals for civic intervention before a serious accident occurs.

According to residents, the road was excavated for a water pipeline project, but the contractor failed to restore the surface properly, leaving behind a deep trench. Continuous rainfall has filled the damaged stretch with water, making it difficult for motorists to judge its depth and increasing the risk of accidents.

Social activist Jaymala Dhankikar raised the issue with PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, demanding immediate intervention and action against those responsible for the incomplete restoration work.

“The contractor dug the road for water pipeline work but left it unrepaired. During the rains, the trench gets filled with water, making it impossible for motorists to identify the damaged stretch. It has become a death trap for two-wheelers, pedestrians and schoolchildren. Immediate restoration is essential before a fatal accident occurs,” said Jaymala Dhankikar.

Residents also lodged a complaint through the PMC grievance portal, urging the civic body to undertake immediate repairs.

Highlighting the daily risks faced by commuters, Nadim Inamdar, a resident of Ganga Kingston, said the damaged road has become increasingly dangerous during the monsoon.

“This road has become extremely dangerous during the monsoon. Two-wheelers are slipping almost every day because the trench gets filled with rainwater and riders cannot judge its depth. Despite repeated complaints, the restoration work has remained incomplete. We urge the PMC to carry out immediate repairs before a serious accident claims a life,” said Nadim Inamdar, a resident of Ganga Kingston, Mohammadwadi.

Responding to the complaint, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram acknowledged the issue and assured residents that the matter had been noted and that necessary action would be taken.

PMC officials later informed residents that the road had been excavated for water pipeline work, but the restoration was not carried out properly by the contractor. Officials assured that temporary repairs will be undertaken immediately to ensure safe movement during the ongoing rains. Once the rains stop, the road will undergo permanent restoration with proper resurfacing, providing a long-term solution for commuters.
