Moshi, 8th July 2026: A portion of the administrative building at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility in Moshi collapsed on Wednesday afternoon after part of a nearby garbage mound reportedly slid following heavy rainfall. Authorities fear that between eight and ten employees may be trapped beneath the debris.
The incident took place at around 1.45 pm, prompting an immediate emergency response. Teams from the PCMC Fire Brigade reached the site and launched rescue operations, while personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to strengthen the search efforts.
A senior fire official said rescue teams were working to locate those believed to be trapped. The official added that the exact number of victims and the extent of injuries or casualties could not be confirmed immediately.
According to civic officials, the collapsed structure served as the administrative office of the municipal corporation’s Waste-to-Energy project, and several employees were inside the building when it gave way.
Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge said continuous heavy rainfall caused a section of the garbage mound at the Moshi dumping ground to collapse onto the administrative building. In a statement shared on social media, he said that eight to ten employees were feared trapped under the debris. He also said that fire brigade and disaster management teams were conducting rescue operations and that those injured were being shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
