Pune, 14th July 2026: After a six-day respite, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to restore alternate-day water supply across the city from July 15, with the civic administration citing the need to conserve water despite a rise in reservoir levels following last week’s rainfall.

A formal announcement on the revised supply schedule is expected after an all-party meeting, likely to be chaired by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, to review the water stock in the Khadakwasla dam chain.

Water rationing had been suspended till July 12 to ensure uninterrupted supply during the annual palkhi procession. However, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Monday said that while recent rains have improved storage in the four dams supplying water to Pune, the reserves are yet to reach a comfortable level.

The civic body is expected to revert to the alternate-day supply schedule that was in force before the temporary suspension. Officials are also assessing the increase in water consumption during the six-day period of daily supply before finalising the schedule.

Several corporators and residents have urged the administration to postpone the reintroduction of cuts by at least two weeks, hoping that another spell of monsoon rainfall will significantly improve reservoir storage.

According to the irrigation department, the combined storage in the Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar dams stood at 16.9 TMC, or 58% of total capacity, on Monday. However, inflows have slowed as rainfall activity in the catchment areas weakened, with none of the four reservoirs recording rainfall during the day.

PMC had imposed alternate-day water supply from June 15 after reservoir storage dropped to nearly 4 TMC amid concerns over a weak monsoon linked to El Niño conditions.
