PMRDA Razes 680 Illegal Tin Sheds Across 35 Hectares in Biggest Demolition Drive
Pune, 14th July 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) carried out its largest-ever demolition drive against illegal tin sheds in Moi village of Khed taluka, razing 680 unauthorised structures spread across nearly 35 hectares during a two-day operation on July 13 and 14.
The demolition was carried out under the leadership of PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, with Additional Metropolitan Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey overseeing the operation. Authorities said elaborate security arrangements were made to ensure the drive was completed without any law and order issues.
Around 1,000 personnel were deployed for the operation, including 650 police personnel, 50 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) jawans, a State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) unit, 30 PMRDA fire brigade personnel, security staff from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and officials from various government departments.
The demolition drive targeted illegal tin sheds and commercial structures across 68 survey numbers in Moi village. Officials said the operation continued for nearly 20 hours over two days and involved 12 poclain machines, 12 JCB excavators, tractors, tippers, hydra cranes and gas cutters to clear the encroachments.
The action was carried out in coordination with the PCMC, the electricity distribution department, the health department and the Khed Panchayat Samiti.
PMRDA officials said the operation passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.
Himmat Kharade, PMRDA’s Joint Commissioner in charge of the unauthorised construction removal department, said the operation was the authority’s biggest action against illegal tin sheds so far and covered approximately 35 hectares.
PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari said the authority would continue its crackdown on unauthorised constructions.
“Illegal tin sheds and unauthorised constructions will not be tolerated within PMRDA limits. The action in Moi is part of our ongoing enforcement drive. Citizens should not fall prey to illegal construction schemes, and such stringent action will continue in the future,” Chaudhari said.
