Pune, 15th July 2026: The Bombay High Court has granted regular bail to Majid Usman Attar, an accused in a case registered under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act.

The order was passed on Wednesday by Justice Ashwin D. Bhobe after hearing detailed arguments from both sides. The case stems from an FIR registered by Samarth Police Station, Pune, on August 29, 2023.

Appearing for the applicant, Advocate Aashuutosh Srivastava argued that Attar had been in judicial custody since his arrest on April 23, 2024, and had spent more than a year as an undertrial prisoner. He further submitted that the prosecution intends to examine 41 witnesses during the trial, making it unlikely that the proceedings would conclude in the near future despite the prosecution’s submission that the trial would commence shortly.

The Public Prosecutor and the intervener opposed the bail application and presented their arguments before the court.

After considering the submissions of both sides and examining the material placed on record, the High Court allowed the bail application and granted regular bail to Attar, subject to the terms and conditions specified in its order.

The order is being viewed as a significant development in the case, highlighting that bail applications must be decided on the basis of the evidence available on record and the established legal principles governing personal liberty.

Following the order, Advocate Aashuutosh Srivastava said, “I am grateful to the Hon’ble High Court for considering the matter on its legal merits. Throughout the proceedings, our endeavour was to place the complete factual record and relevant legal materials before the Court. The order granting regular bail reinforces the settled principle that personal liberty is of paramount importance and that every case must be assessed on its own facts in accordance with law. We respect the judicial process and will ensure full compliance with all conditions imposed by the Hon’ble Court.”
