Pune, 17th July 2026: Central Railway has intensified restoration work on the landslide-affected Lonavala–Karjat ghat section, with engineering teams deploying deep steel anchors and gabion structures to stabilise vulnerable slopes and accelerate the reopening of the route.

According to the latest restoration update, steel anchors are being driven 10 to 12 metres deep into the soil and rock beneath the railway track using pneumatic drifters. The anchoring work is being carried out at locations where heavy rainfall had caused soil to collapse.

A total of six pneumatic drifters have been deployed across the affected sites to strengthen the ground and secure the track formation.

As part of the slope protection work, large boulders are being transported to the restoration sites by railway wagons and unloaded along the affected stretch. These boulders are being placed inside wire mesh cages (gabions) to reinforce the embankment and prevent further soil erosion.

The specialised restoration work is being undertaken at multiple locations on the Lonavala–Karjat section, where train operations have remained affected following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. Railway teams continue to carry out engineering and stabilisation measures at the affected sites.
