Maharashtra CET Cell Files Cyber Complaint Over Viral Videos Questioning Exam Results

Pune, 30th July 2026: The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has lodged a written complaint with the Cyber Police after misleading videos circulated on social media questioning the credibility and transparency of the CET examination process by comparing students’ Class 12 marks with their CET percentile scores.

The viral videos claimed that several students who had scored relatively low marks in the Class 12 examination had secured exceptionally high CET percentiles, ranging from 98 to 100, thereby raising doubts about the fairness of the examination. The videos also alleged that many candidates with high percentile scores had not applied for the admission process.

Rejecting the allegations, State CET Cell Commissioner Dilip Sardesai said the claims were based on selective and incomplete data and that drawing conclusions about the entire examination process from isolated cases was misleading and incorrect.

The CET Cell clarified that there is no direct correlation between Class 12 board examination marks and CET percentile scores, as the two assessments follow different evaluation methods and test different competencies.

According to data released by the CET Cell, 344 students who scored above 90 per cent in the Class 12 examination secured less than the 40th percentile in the CET, while only 63 students who scored between 50 and 60 per cent in Class 12 obtained above the 99th percentile in the CET. The majority of candidates who secured very high CET percentiles had scored between 75 and 85 per cent in their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination.

The CET Cell also highlighted what it described as a strong correlation between CET and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) results. According to the data, 8,174 students who scored between the 95th and 100th percentile in the CET also secured above the 90th percentile in JEE. Of the 38 candidates who achieved a perfect 100 percentile in the CET, 36 have applied for the admission process, while only two have not submitted applications.

Stating that the consistency between CET and JEE results leaves little scope for allegations of malpractice, the CET Cell urged students and parents not to believe rumours or misinformation circulating on social media.
