FDA Seizes Food Products Worth Rs 55 Lakh in Major Crackdown on Pune Sweet Shops
Pune, 30th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified inspections of sweet shops across Pune, seizing food products worth more than ₹55 lakh during raids in the city’s central areas, including Ganesh Peth, Bhawani Peth and Nana Peth.
The action followed the detection of multiple violations, including the suspected use of substandard food ingredients, unhygienic storage conditions and the stocking of food products without the required licences. The seized stock included sweets, candies, chocolates and dry fruits.
During the drive, the FDA raided two establishments in Ganesh Peth. At Vardhman Enterprises, officials seized 813 kg of Anna Malai sweets, 1,296 kg of Imli Jelly and 812 kg of Lovely Candy, with a combined value of ₹17.82 lakh. The products were seized on suspicion of being substandard, unsafe and in violation of food labelling regulations.
At New Pandian Enterprises, the FDA seized Sonpapdi, chikki and Rasmalai barfi worth ₹58,620, suspecting the products to be unsafe for consumption.
Samples of all the seized food items have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. The FDA said further legal action will be initiated based on the laboratory test reports.
FDA Joint Commissioner Digambar Bhogawade urged consumers to carefully check product labels, as well as manufacturing and expiry dates, before purchasing packaged food items to ensure food safety.
