Pune’s Kharadi-Keshavnagar Bridge to Open by August 15, Promises Major Traffic Relief
Keshavnagar, 2nd July 2026: The much-awaited Kharadi-Keshavnagar bridge over the Mula-Mutha River is set to open for vehicular traffic by August 15, bringing significant relief to commuters in Pune’s rapidly growing eastern corridors.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed the main bridge structure after nearly two years of construction under a public-private partnership (PPP) model at a cost of ₹23.20 crore. The 246.40-metre-long and 24-metre-wide bridge includes separate service roads and footpaths, aimed at decongesting key routes linking Kharadi, Mundhwa, Keshavnagar, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Wagholi, and Vadgaon Sheri.
Speaking to reporters, PMC Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale confirmed the timeline and progress. “The main work of the bridge, which has been going on for the last two years, has been completed. The necessary infrastructure for traffic, including signals, has been set up on the Kharadi side,” he said.
Bhimale added that the only pending work is a 700-metre approach road stretch on the Keshavnagar side, from the Renuka Mata Temple area toward Godrej. “Footpath work and asphalting is still underway and orders have been given to complete it by August 15,” he stated, directing officials to expedite the remaining tasks on a war footing.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to drastically reduce travel times and ease daily congestion for thousands of residents and IT professionals in the area. PMC officials emphasized that the bridge will be opened only after all safety-related works, including utilities and approach roads, are fully completed.
The announcement comes amid resident frustration over prolonged delays, with some earlier reports suggesting the structure had been ready for months. Bhimale’s directive aims to address these concerns and deliver the long-promised infrastructure boost before the Independence Day deadline.
