Hinjawadi Love Triangle Murder: Pune Rural Police Arrest Suspect While Fleeing on Pune–Solapur Highway

Hinjawadi/Uruli Kanchan, 6th August 2026: Police detained a 23-year-old man at a checkpoint on the Pune–Solapur highway on Thursday while he was allegedly fleeing after an iron-rod attack in Hinjawadi that killed a young man and seriously injured a woman.

Police identified the suspect as Dinesh Mahadev Zambare, a native of Palshi in Pandharpur taluka of Solapur district and currently residing in the Marunji–Bhumkar Chowk area of Hinjawadi.

According to Pune Rural Police, Zambare and the injured woman had reportedly been in a relationship since their school days. They later came to Pune to pursue Bachelor of Computer Applications courses.

Police suspect that Zambare became angry after the woman entered into a relationship with another young man. On Thursday, he allegedly went to the place where the man and woman were staying and struck them on the head with an iron rod.

The young man died at the scene, while the woman sustained serious injuries. The press note did not disclose their identities or provide further details about the woman’s condition.

Following the attack, Zambare allegedly fled towards Pandharpur in an Ertiga car, travelling along the Pune–Solapur highway.

After receiving information about the incident, Hinjawadi Police Station Senior Inspector Balaji Pandhare contacted Uruli Kanchan Police Station Senior Inspector Vijaymala Pawar and shared details of the suspect’s vehicle.

The information was subsequently passed to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Shubham Kumar and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bapurao Dadas.

Acting under their guidance, Uruli Kanchan police set up an emergency checkpoint on the highway outside the police station.

The checkpoint operation was led by Assistant Police Inspector Pandurang Pawar. The team comprised police head constables Somnath Chitare, Sachin Jagtap, Kamlesh Hole, Nilesh Jadhav, Sachin More, Uddhav Gaikwad, Prashant Pawar and Vikas Lagas, along with police constables Rushikesh Raskar, Ashwajit Mohod and Suvarna Gaikwad.

Police said the team spotted the Ertiga approaching at high speed and intercepted it. The driver was taken into custody, and police claimed that he admitted his involvement in the Hinjawadi attack during preliminary questioning. Zambare and the vehicle were subsequently detained.

Meanwhile, a Hinjawadi police team pursuing the suspect reached Uruli Kanchan Police Station. The team included Assistant Police Inspector Durganath Sali, Police Sub-Inspectors Ashok Dudhavane and Naresh Balsane, Police Head Constable Prashant Gilbile, and police constables Mininath Pawar and Omprakash Kamble.

Zambare was later handed over to Hinjawadi police for further legal action. The investigation is continuing.
