Pune,11th August 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has stepped up efforts to address traffic congestion in the Chakan and Talegaon industrial areas, with four alternative bypass roads planned along the Pune–Nashik Highway. The land acquisition process for the proposed roads is currently underway.

The projects are aimed at diverting industrial and heavy vehicle traffic away from key congestion points in Chakan and Talegaon and improving connectivity between the industrial areas, Pune, Nashik and the Shikrapur State Highway.

As part of the proposed eastern bypass, a 900-metre-long and 30-metre-wide road will connect Hingne Chowk on the Talegaon–Chakan Highway to Kharabwadi in Phase 3 of the Chakan industrial area. The road will also provide connectivity towards the Volkswagen plant and is expected to facilitate traffic from Phases 2 and 3 of Talegaon and Chakan towards the Pune–Nashik Highway.

Another proposed road, measuring 1.2 km in length and 15 metres in width, will connect SANY Company in Nanekarwadi with the Samruddhi CNG pump. The route will link Phases 2 and 3 of the Talegaon and Chakan industrial areas with the Pune–Nashik Highway and is expected to reduce congestion at the main Chakan Chowk.

A 2.5-km-long and 35-metre-wide road will also be developed from Bangla Vasti Chowk in Medankarwadi to Rase Phata. The road will connect Talegaon and Chakan’s industrial areas with the Shikrapur State Highway through Rase Phata.

Under the proposed western bypass, an 850-metre-long and 45-metre-wide road will connect the Pune–Nashik Highway with Phase 5 of the Chakan industrial area. The road is expected to improve the movement of heavy vehicles around Chakan Chowk and Ambethan Chowk.

Major district roads to be upgraded

Along with the bypass projects, the PMRDA is undertaking development works on several major district roads in the region. These include:

Chikhali–Moi – 1.65 km

Kuruli Phata–Nighoje – 2.5 km

Alandi Phata (Chakan)–Alandi Road – 4 km

Chaholi Khurd–Alandi–Markal – 2 km

Nighoje–Chakan MIDC – 1.25 km

Khalumbre–Chakan MIDC Phase 2 – 1.75 km

The PMRDA has allocated ₹100 crore for the development of major district roads in the Chakan and Talegaon industrial belt. These works are currently in progress.

According to Shivkumar Kupal, Executive Engineer, PMRDA, the land acquisition process for the four proposed bypass roads is underway. The projects are expected to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother movement of traffic in the rapidly expanding industrial areas.
