Pune: SPPU Holds Induction Programme For M.A. Lifelong Learning Students On International Literacy Day
Pune, 11th September 2026: The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) organised an induction programme for the newly admitted M.A. Lifelong Learning students for the academic year 2026–27 on September 8.
The programme was held on International Literacy Day, observed annually on September 8, aligning with the department’s focus on literacy, lifelong learning, community development and inclusive education.
The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension works at the intersection of academic learning and community engagement, with a focus on extension education alongside teaching and research. Its activities include field-based interventions, skill development initiatives, lifelong learning programmes and social awareness activities involving different sections of society.
The M.A. Lifelong Learning programme combines classroom-based academic learning with practical field experience. The curriculum covers areas including adult education, community development, skill training and counselling, with an emphasis on developing community-oriented interventions. The programme also prepares students for opportunities in non-governmental organisations, corporate social responsibility (CSR), social welfare and related sectors.
The full-day induction programme featured sessions by academicians from the department and other experts.
The inaugural session was conducted with Chief Guest Dr. Geeta Shinde, who provided introductory insights to the new students. Dr. P. V. Gupta conducted a session on the Lifelong Learning Practicum, introducing students to practical approaches and frameworks.
Dr. Vilas Adhav, Director and Head of the Department, explained the scope of the department and its various extension programmes. Dr. Dadasaheb Dhengale conducted a session focusing on physical activities and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.
The programme concluded with a session by Dr. Navnath Tupe, who discussed the scope and significance of the M.A. Lifelong Learning programme and outlined academic guidelines for the students.
The induction programme aimed to familiarise the new batch with the department’s academic framework, practical components and community-focused approach as they begin the 2026–27 academic year.
