Pimple Saudagar: Thar Driver Flees Traffic Police, Hits Two-Wheeler at Signal

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 12th September 2026: Kalewadi police have registered a case against a 21-year-old man for allegedly driving dangerously, disobeying police instructions and using a misleading number plate on his SUV in Pimple Saudagar.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused has been identified as Suresh alias Krishna Kate, a resident of Pimple Saudagar.

The incident allegedly occurred at around 7.15 pm on September 11 near Shivar Chowk on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Road. Police personnel from the Sangvi traffic division received information about a black Mahindra Thar with dark films on its windows being driven in the area.

When police reached the location and attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly ignored their directions and drove away in a reckless manner, endangering police personnel and other road users. Officers stationed at Shivar Chowk subsequently spotted the SUV stopped at a red traffic signal and again tried to intercept it.

The FIR alleges that the driver attempted to flee by accelerating but collided with a two-wheeler that was in front of the SUV. When police personnel tried to stop him, he allegedly reversed the vehicle, threatened them and escaped from the spot.

During subsequent verification, police found that the SUV’s registration plate had allegedly been altered to prominently display the number “77.” The rear plate reportedly showed the remaining registration details in smaller letters, while the front plate displayed only “77” in large characters. Police traced the vehicle’s registered owner and identified the owner’s son as the person who had allegedly been driving it.

Based on a complaint lodged by traffic police constable Sudhir Kailas Sabale, Kalewadi police registered FIR No. 0466 of 2026 under Sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 50, 51(1), 100(2), 119, 177, 179 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh Subhash Nalawade is investigating the case.
