Pune: PMC Seizes 519 Gas Cylinders From Unauthorized Roadside Vendors in 7 Months
Pune, 19th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) encroachment department has intensified action against unauthorised businesses and roadside food vendors using gas cylinders, seizing 519 cylinders since February.
The civic administration provided the figures in a written reply to a question raised by corporator Mansi Deshpande.
Officials said the use of gas cylinders by unauthorised vendors on footpaths and roads poses a potential safety risk, particularly in crowded areas. As part of the drive, officials have been confiscating cylinders found in use by such vendors.
The seized cylinders are stored in a secured tin shed at the encroachment department’s warehouse. Vendors can reclaim their cylinders after paying a Rs 3,000 charge, following which the cylinder is returned.
The encroachment department is likely to continue the drive to prevent unsafe use of LPG cylinders by roadside vendors and unauthorised businesses in crowded areas and on footpaths.
