Pune: Wanowrie’s 108 Ambulance Shifted To Yewalewadi To Serve Accident-Prone Bopdev Ghat

Wanowrie, 19th September 2026: A government 108 ambulance, which has served Wanowrie residents for nearly 12 years, has been shifted to Yewalewadi, leaving residents dependent on ambulances stationed in Kondhwa and Hadapsar during emergencies.

The free ambulance service had been available round-the-clock in Wanowrie since 2014, catering to residents as well as patients at the PMC’s Vithalrao Shivarkar Dispensary.

Officials said the ambulance was shifted to Yewalewadi due to the need for an emergency response near Bopdev Ghat, where accidents are frequently reported. The move, however, has raised concerns over response times in densely populated Wanowrie, particularly during peak traffic hours.

According to 108 service Pune district manager Nanasaheb Oval, the ambulance stationed in Wanowrie received an average of only one call a day, resulting in low utilisation. The vehicle was therefore shifted to Yewalewadi to ensure better use of available resources.

Residents, however, questioned the decision, saying any delay during the critical ‘golden hour’ could prove costly. They said the ambulance will now have to cover a distance of around 8km to reach Wanowrie, potentially adding to response time amid heavy traffic.

Oval said a new 108 ambulance is expected to be provided for Wanowrie and Undri in the coming months.
