Pune: Youth Dies During Lalbaugcha Raja Darshan Queue in Mumbai

Pune, 20th September 2026: A 25-year-old man from Pune died after suffering a sudden medical emergency while waiting in the darshan queue at Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai on the night of September 17.

The deceased has been identified as Jaideep Meghraj Nemade, a Pune resident originally from Jalgaon. Nemade had travelled to Mumbai with his friends to seek darshan at the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:40 pm, when Nemade reportedly felt uneasy and complained of difficulty breathing while standing in the queue.

He was immediately attended to and taken for medical treatment. However, he later succumbed.

Police have stated that there was no indication of a crowd crush or injuries caused by a stampede in connection with the incident. The exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem examination.

The incident has raised concerns over the need for adequate medical assistance and emergency response arrangements at major Ganpati mandals, which witness large numbers of devotees during the festival.
