Pune: IT Engineer Allegedly Kills Wife Amid Suspected Family Dispute, Attempts Suicide
Pune, 21st September 2026: An IT engineer allegedly killed his wife with a sharp weapon following a family dispute and later attempted suicide by injuring himself and jumping from the second-floor gallery of their rented apartment in Dehugaon on Sunday morning.
The incident came to light around 5.45am at Omkar Society in Dehugaon.
The deceased was identified as Shubhangi Akash Baraskar (28), while her husband Akash Ramdas Baraskar (26) sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to Dehu Road police, a patrolling team received information about a man being assaulted in the Omkar Society area and reached the spot. Akash was found injured on the road, while Shubhangi was found unconscious and critically injured inside a room on the second floor.
Both were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared Shubhangi dead. Her body was sent to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri for postmortem and later handed over to her relatives. Akash is undergoing treatment.
Police said Akash works as an IT engineer with a company in Hinjewadi IT Park, while Shubhangi was employed with a private company. The couple got married in December 2023 and had been living on rent at Omkar Society for the past four to five months.
Preliminary police inquiry found that the couple had been having disputes for around a year. Police suspect that Akash attacked Shubhangi with a sharp weapon during one such dispute. He allegedly then injured himself and jumped from the second-floor gallery in an apparent attempt to end his life.
Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.Priliminary information suggest that the victim woman was pregnant.
