Pune: Parking Rates May Soar as PMC Proposes New Two-Zone Policy, Rs 40 Per Hour Charges Proposed For Cars
Pune, 21st September 2026: The motorists in the PMC limits may soon have to pay significantly more to park their vehicles, with the civic administration proposing a major overhaul of the city’s public parking policy.
Under the proposed policy, the existing three parking zones will be replaced with two — Zone A covering the central and densely populated areas, and Zone B covering the rest of the city. The proposal is yet to be approved by the standing committee and general body.
For off-street parking, two-wheelers will be charged Rs 15 per hour and four-wheelers Rs 30 in Zone A, compared with the existing Rs 1-3 and Rs 7-14 respectively. In Zone B, the proposed rates are Rs 10 for two-wheelers and Rs 20 for four-wheelers.
On-street parking will be costlier, with proposed rates of Rs 20 per hour for two-wheelers and Rs 40 for four-wheelers in Zone A. Charges for autorickshaws, paratransit vehicles and goods tempos will range from Rs 15 to Rs 20, while mini-buses and light commercial vehicles will attract Rs 30 to Rs 45. Trucks will be charged Rs 40 to Rs 60 and private passenger buses Rs 60 to Rs 90 per hour, depending on the zone.
The civic administration said the revision was necessary due to the rapid rise in vehicle ownership and shortage of parking space. Around 1,000 to 1,500 new vehicles are registered in the city every day.
The 2018 parking policy had three zones based on parking demand. The revised policy proposes two zones and also includes mechanical parking facilities, where four-wheelers will be charged Rs 40 per hour.
To encourage metro use and reduce congestion, monthly parking passes have also been proposed at off-street parking facilities near metro stations. In Zone A, the monthly charges will be Rs 1,500 for two-wheelers and Rs 3,000 for four-wheelers, while in Zone B, they will be Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
The new on-street parking policy will initially be implemented on a pilot basis on five roads — Balewadi High Street, Bibwewadi Road, Viman Nagar Road, Laxmi Road and the stretch from Jangli Maharaj Road to Fergusson College Road. The municipal commissioner will subsequently be authorised to extend it to other major roads.
The proposal also includes a progressive fee structure for longer parking. In congestion-prone areas, four-wheelers will be charged Rs 40 for the first hour, with the cumulative charge going up to Rs 500 for 10 hours.
Real-time information on parking capacity, availability and charges will also be made available through a mobile app or digital display boards.
