Pune Ganesh Immersion: Noise Levels Reach 109 Decibels on Sinhagad Road
Pune, 22nd September 2026: Several public Ganesh idols were immersed at different locations across the city on Sunday, the seventh day of Ganeshotsav. The immersion processions featured traditional dhol-tasha performances as well as DJ music.
On Sinhagad Road, high noise levels were recorded during an immersion procession between approximately 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm. Sound-level measurements recorded during the period showed that noise levels remained above the prescribed limits.
The average noise level recorded during the procession was 95 decibels, while the maximum reached 109 decibels. The minimum reading during the period was 84 decibels.
The readings also showed an increase in noise levels when the volume of the DJ music was raised. For nearly an hour, the sound level remained between 90 and 103 decibels.
The loud music and dhol-tasha performances continued late into the night, causing inconvenience to some residents living along Sinhagad Road. Senior citizens, children and other residents were among those affected by the high noise levels.
The readings have also highlighted concerns over noise pollution during Ganeshotsav. While various organisations and authorities have been promoting an environmentally friendly and noise-controlled festival, the high noise levels recorded during the immersion procession presented a contrasting situation on Sunday.
