Why Not Pune?’: CM Devendra Fadnavis Holds Talks With 25+ Companies To Boost GCC Growth
Pune, 22nd September 2026: The Maharashtra government and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have stepped up efforts to expand Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Pune and attract fresh investments, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis holding an online interaction with senior representatives of more than 25 companies operating in the city.
The meeting, held under the theme ‘Why Not Pune?’, focused on challenges faced by companies, infrastructure requirements and opportunities for expanding investments in the city.
Fadnavis said Pune had a strong ecosystem across manufacturing, technology and IT, making it a natural destination for GCCs. Under the Maharashtra GCC Policy 2025, the state aims to attract around 400 new GCCs and create four lakh high-skilled jobs.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Metro, ring road and tunnels, aimed at improving connectivity and quality of life in the city. Pune’s skilled engineering and technology workforce, he said, was another key strength for the GCC sector.
Industry representatives raised concerns about policy gaps, procedural hurdles and infrastructure requirements. Fadnavis assured them that practical suggestions would be considered and that the government would extend the necessary support to address issues affecting expansion and investment.
More than one lakh people are currently employed through GCCs in Pune, according to officials. The administration is looking to expand the sector further by attracting new companies and supporting the expansion of existing centres.
PMC commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between industry and administration and provide companies with information on infrastructure projects, development plans and future opportunities.
He said the interaction was also intended to create a platform where industry representatives could directly put forward their expectations and suggestions, allowing the city’s development plans to become more responsive and industry-oriented.
Pune has significant potential in areas including IT, artificial intelligence, financial services, research and development and global business services, officials said. Its skilled workforce, educational institutions and technology ecosystem have made it an attractive destination for global companies.
Suggestions and concerns raised during the meeting will be compiled and converted into an action plan, following which the implementation of various measures will be reviewed and monitored, Ram said.
The meeting was attended by PMC additional commissioners Pavneet Kaur and Omprakash Divate, representatives of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), police, district administration and other departments.
PMC’s initiative was also supported by house leader Ganesh Bidkar, who said regular interaction between the government, civic administration and industry was necessary to resolve issues faced by companies and make Pune a more attractive investment destination.
Officials said the ‘Why Not Pune?’ initiative seeks to strengthen coordination between the state government, PMC and industry, with the broader objective of positioning Pune as a major hub for GCCs, technology, innovation and high-skilled employment.
