Oct 23 MLC polls: Pune Division Graduates’, Teachers’ Seats Among 5 In Maharashtra

New Delhi/Pune, 22nd September 2026: The Election Commission of India has announced biennial elections for five Maharashtra Legislative Council seats from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies. Polling will be held on October 23, with counting and results scheduled for October 27.

The elections are being held for seats whose terms are due to expire on December 6, 2026. The retiring members are Satish Bhanudasrao Chavan (Aurangabad Division Graduates, now known as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Arun Ganpati Lad (Pune Division Graduates), Abhijit Govindrao Vanjari (Nagpur Division Graduates), Kiran Ramrao Sarnaik (Amravati Division Teachers) and Jayant Dinkar Asgaonkar (Pune Division Teachers).

The Election Commission will issue the notification on September 29, while the last date for filing nominations is October 6. Scrutiny will take place on October 7 and candidates can withdraw their nominations by October 9. Polling will be held from 8am to 4pm on October 23, followed by counting on October 27. The elections are to be completed by October 31.

The Maharashtra polls are part of a larger round of Legislative Council elections being held simultaneously in Bihar, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. A total of 28 seats across the four states will go to the polls on October 23. Bihar has eight seats, Karnataka four, Maharashtra five and Uttar Pradesh 11 seats up for election. These include seats from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies.

The Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the constituencies going to polls, according to the Election Commission schedule.
