Pune: RTO Penalises 66 Out-of-State Luxury Buses in 21-Day Inspection Drive
Pune, 22nd September 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched a special inspection drive against luxury buses registered in other states to check whether they comply with transport and passenger safety regulations while operating in Maharashtra and on routes connecting the state with other states.
During the 21-day drive from September 1 to 21, officials inspected out-of-state registered luxury buses and took action against 66 vehicles found violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and related rules.
The violations included not carrying fire extinguishers or first-aid kits, carrying excess passengers, expired fitness certificates, absence of high-security registration plates (HSRP), operating without permits, transporting goods, lack of required licences and making unauthorised modifications to vehicles.
The RTO imposed fines totalling Rs 13.74 lakh on the 66 buses, of which Rs 10.56 lakh has been recovered so far.
Motor vehicle inspectors and assistant motor vehicle inspectors from the RTO participated in the special drive.
The RTO has advised owners and drivers of luxury buses operating between Maharashtra and other states to keep all vehicle documents updated and carry valid permits and fitness certificates. They have also been asked to strictly comply with all passenger safety norms.
The Pimpri Chinchwad RTO said strict action would be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act against vehicles found violating the rules.
