Pune: As the World Cerebral Palsy Day is celebrated on October 6, 13 years old Kanad Pimpalnerkar, resident of Chinchwad makes Pune proud by receiving ‘Grand Master’ by Asia Book of Records. Kanad, who suffers from cerebral palsy completed a 13000 feet trek in the Himalayas in September 2019. Being the first child with cerebral palsy to achieve this feat so far, the Asia Book of Records has recognized Kanad’s trek in the Himalayas and honoured him with a ‘Grand Master’ award with a certificate and a medal recently.

Kanad has set this record by climbing from Gangotri to Gomukh in Garhwal, Himalayas and Chandrashila Mountain. During a period of 21st to 25th September 2019, Kanad completed the hike from Gangotri to Gomukh in his first attempt itself.
However, due to bad weather and dangerous roads, Kanad was able to reach this place called ‘Bhojbas’ at an altitude of 12,400 feet above sea level. This is a one-way route of 14 km. from Gangotri.
Chandrashila Mountain is situated at a place known as ‘Chopta’, on the way from Kedarnath to Badrinath, there is at. “Tungnath”, the World’s highest temple of Lord Mahadev is located on Chandrashila Mountain.

During this hike, Kanad had to face narrow pathway, hovering steep Mountain hills and extremely cold winds blowing with a thick fog.
After missing an opportunity to reach Gomukh at an altitude of 13,000 feet, Kanad displayed perseverance by successfully reaching the summit of Chandrashila Mountain at the same altitude of 13,000 feet.

“Our confidence and joy have doubled as the very first and successful attempt of Kanad’s trek in the Himalayas have been recognized, rewarded and recorded by the Asia Book of Records. If the parents of special children pay heed to their interests, likings and motivate them to pursue it, every child could achieve such success”, said Kanad’s Parents Darshana and Prashant Pimpalnerkar.

“Having the possibility of Kanad’s ability to walk in his life been ruled out by most of the specialist doctors, we feel extremely proud of Kanad for his accomplishments”, expressed his grandparents.
