Pune, 18th September 2025: The Higher and Technical Education Department has appointed inspectors to investigate engineering colleges accused of violating admission norms for first-year degree courses. The inspectors will soon submit detailed reports to the Divisional Technical Education Office, which will then forward them to the Admissions Regulating Authority (ARA) for further action.

The Pune Divisional Office of the Technical Education Department clarified that penal action will be taken against colleges found to have admitted students outside the prescribed rules.

The issue came to light after the completion of the centralised admission process (CAP) for first-year engineering courses conducted by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Examination Cell. Although admissions to vacant and management quota seats must strictly follow merit as per Rule 13 of the admission booklet, some colleges reportedly bypassed these norms and granted admissions irregularly.

In response, the Technical Education Department deputed inspectors to 12 engineering colleges in Pune to verify whether institution-level admissions were conducted transparently and in line with regulations. Their findings will be scrutinised by the ARA before initiating penal measures against defaulting colleges.

Maruti Jadhav, In-charge Joint Director of the Technical Education Department, Pune, said: “Inspectors have been appointed to ensure admissions are done according to merit and quality. Their reports will be submitted to the Admission Regulatory Authority, which will decide on further action. Strict measures will be taken against colleges that ignored the rules.”
