Action On Illegal Sale Of Liquor: Goods Worth Rs 12 Crore Seized By State Excise Department 2022 In Pune
Pune, 6th January 2023: The State Excise Department has taken record action against those who sell, transport, and manufacture illegal liquor in the last year. In 2022, 1,870 cases have been registered against the concerned, and 2,006 accused have been arrested.
Excise Department has reviewed the actions taken in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas during the last year. The Excise Department has conducted record operations against the illegal manufacture, transportation, and sale of liquor. In this action, 1,870 cases have been registered and 2,006 accused have been arrested.
“More than 200 four-wheelers and two-wheelers have been seized. Also, from these operations, goods worth Rs 12.23 crore have been seized,” informed Charan Singh Rajput, Superintendent of State Excise, Pune Division.
“Last year, 1,538 cases were registered in connection with the illegal sale, transportation, and production of liquor. Also, 1,568 accused were arrested. Rs 7.91 crore worth of goods were seized from these operations. Therefore, the Excise Department has succeeded in seizing Rs five crore more than last year in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and other rural areas,” said Rajput.
“33,807 barrels of foreign liquor seized, while 22,200 barrels of domestic, foreign, and beer have been seized. Also, in the current year, a total of 26 crimes have been registered under Sections 68 and 84 of the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act, 1949, in which 84 accused have been sentenced by the court with a fine of Rs 1,74,300,” Rajput added further.
The State Excise Department has warehouses at Mangalwar Peth, Talegaon Dabhade, Tadiwala Road, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Narayan Gaon, and Saswad. In these godowns, items such as vehicles seized during the operation, liquor stock, and materials required for production are kept. Superintendent Rajput also said that the confiscated liquor stock and production materials are destroyed as per the order of the court.
