Affordable Pune Metro Tickets and Improved Last-Mile Connectivity Coming Soon: PMPML to Procure 1,000 Buses

Pune, 26th December 2024: Maharashtra State cabinet minister Chandrakant Patil announced plans to procure around 1,000 buses to enhance last-mile connectivity for Pune’s Metro rail. The initiative, led by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) in collaboration with Maha Metro, aims to address the city’s growing public transportation needs.
“Metro connectivity to Hinjawadi is expected to be operational by March 2025, and by 2030, the Metro network will link all major locations across the city,” Patil said during a media briefing following his visit to the underground Metro stations on Wednesday.
The minister also revealed plans to introduce a dedicated bus service for Pune Airport, with buses operating from various Metro stations to facilitate smooth transfers. Additionally, PMPML will roll out bus services to ensure seamless pick-up and drop-off for Metro commuters.
“To make Metro services more accessible, low-cost ticketing options will soon be introduced for citizens,” Patil said. “A specific number of newly procured buses will be allocated exclusively for last-mile connectivity.”
Patil shared that a meeting with the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and deputy chief ministers is in the works to address critical issues in Pune. Among the key topics of discussion will be the potential division of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to improve administrative efficiency.
“PMC is one of the largest municipal corporations in the state, and managing such a vast jurisdiction is a challenge. A smaller municipal corporation could improve governance and service delivery in Pune,” Patil explained.
However, he noted that forming a new civic body before the upcoming municipal elections would be difficult.
